SUSTAINABILITY
Since 1998, all sturgeon species are included in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). This convention regulates the international trade of protected animals and plants and aims to exploit their populations sustainably and to preserve them. Therefore, any legally traded caviar has to originate from an aquaculture. But is every aquaculture automatically a sustainable farm?
Protection of species
The breeding of regional, worldwide unique species strengthens the wild sturgeon populations in the Caspian Sea sustainably.
Water
Permanent laboratory controls and the non-usage of artificial aids guarantee the purest water for the fish and wastewater free of contamination.
THE SUSTAINABILITY OF OUR
Persian Caviar
- Our aquaculture releases farmed indigenous sturgeon fish into the Caspian Sea which strengthens the regional and worldwide unique biodiversity.
- Our farm employs ISO 22000:2005 certified fish feed. No genetically modified substances, antibiotics, growth hormones and artificial aids are used. This avoids the pollution of the environment by contaminated wastewater.
- The water quality is permanently controlled by laboratories following the current international standards and therefore meets the most stringent requirements. The farm’s water comes directly from the Caspian Sea, its inflows and adjacent fresh water sources. The sturgeons are thus provided with optimal and natural living conditions and the use of artificial aids in order to achieve a superior water quality can be avoided.
- Our employees examine the female sturgeons with ultrasound so that a premature and useless extraction of sturgeon roes can be avoided.
- The sturgeons get enough free swimming space, even more than has been stipulated in international standards.
- The local veterinary authorities and our staff proactively inform the population about species and environmental protection and include it for the implementation.
- The fish and caviar quality are examined in our in-house laboratories. Samples are analysed in laboratories of the health authorities in both Iran and Switzerland. We thoroughly check every single tin in Switzerland again before selling our caviar. The quality gets therefore multiple times from different sides checked and is guaranteed.
- Our farm is HACCP certified and authorised as an aquaculture by the local authorities. It is controlled according to international veterinary legislation and the CITES convention.
- Our company is registered in Switzerland under the CITES registration number CH97RE. We are authorised to repack, import and export our caviar. Inspections are carried out by the Cantonal Laboratory of Zurich and the CITES authority in Bern, with the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) acting as the enforcement authority.
